What snuck into 7up?

March 13, 2008

I went to the office fridge, and look what jumped out at me.

Yuck! Pomegranate.

I’m not a huge fan of 7up unless it is dosed in grenadine.
I have no clue what grenadine is made from though.
And I have no clue what pomegranate is.

After a little wikipedia exploring.
Grenadine comes from the French word grenade meaning pomegranate.
Interesting.

I’m still not drinking it.

  3. Pomegranate is kinda like a less offensive cranberry. The Pom tea in grocery stores is mondo-good.

  4. Exodus 28:33ā€“34 directed that images of pomegranates be woven onto the borders of Hebrew priestly robes. 1 Kings 7:13ā€“22 describes pomegranates depicted in the temple King Solomon built in Jerusalem. Jewish tradition teaches that the pomegranate is a symbol for righteousness, because it is said to have 613 seeds which corresponds with the 613 mitzvot or commandments of the Torah.
Jews eat pomegranates on Rosh Hashanah. The pomegranate is one of the few images which appear on ancient coins of Judea as a holy symbol, and today many Torah scrolls are stored while not in use with a pair of decorative hollow silver “pomegranates”
