Organizations, specifically non-profits are looking for ways that makes it simple, and easy for others to give financially towards their goals, vision, values.
Two ways that organizations are making it easier to give.
Giving goes mobile.
Mobile technology has made giving towards causes, relief efforts and to organizations very simple.
You don’t have to mail a check, you don’t even have to fill out an online form, or give out your credit card information.
During the Haiti earthquake a couple organizations have used SMS technology and the ability for people to give towards relief efforts by simply texting, and having the donation applied to their existing cell phone bill.
Doesn’t get much simpler than that.
So far Red Cross has raised almost $3,000,000 in monies donated via SMS, by users texing “haiti” to 90999.
Compassion International is also accepting funds by having users text “disaster” to 90999.
Both of these are powered thru the mobile donation provider – mGive.
Giving goes social.
Facebook has a feature called “Causes”, where individuals and organizations can set up a specific “Cause”, that other can join and show their support towards.
The goal of all this is what we call “equal opportunity activism.” We’re trying to level the playing field by empowering individuals to change the world. (via Facebook)
Within “Causes”, non-profits can setup “Fundraisers; which allows them to receive funds.
Several disaster relief organizations instantly started collecting funds by Facebook users once the devastation of the Haiti earthquake hit the news, thru this Fundraiser feature.
Convoy of Hope has raised over $1,500 thru Facebook fundraiser alone, just in the past couple of days.
Donate to Convoy of Hope thru Facebook.

It’s just not the organizations spreading the word, but it’s also activists and those that believe in the organization.
Travis Spencer used it as an opportunity to tell his Facebook friends that as a birthday gift to him, that he wanted them all of his friends to donate $10.
He set up a goal, and was able to watch as it was being fulfilled all without leaving Facebook.
