I’ve heard of Merlin Mann and his “Inbox Zero” idea for a couple of years, but I finally sat down and looked over his site, and watched his presentation of the idea to Google.
Why?
Because I’ve got over 250 emails sitting in my inbox screaming at me.
Merlin gives a good plan on how to deal with your email, by processing each email by doing one of the following.
Choose one action to do on each email
Delete
or create a single folder called “archive” that you throw it into.
Delegate
Forward it to someone else.
Respond
Get it out and do something with it as quick as possible.
Defer
Answer it later. Put it in a folder called “Respond”
Do it
Put it on your calendar, to do list or wherever. Just get it out of your inbox.
You can check out Merlin’s original Inbox Zero presentation that he gave at Google. It’s about an hour long, but so worth it. Watch video.
