On any given night in America, anywhere from 700,000 to 2 million people are homeless, according to estimates of the National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty.
I was able to help with the homeless for a week in San Francisco in 2003.
I spent a couple days on the streets passing out food and blankets in the Haight-Ashbury area.
