Today I attended a webinar provided by Monk Dev and Justin Wise called One-Hour Social Media Strategy: Getting Started the Right Way. Here’s my notes.

How to get started.

Step 1 : Picking a Time

Step 2 : Pick Your Weapon
Schedule your updates, your blog posts (Just set it, and forget!)
Good tools to use: Hootsuite ProTweetDeck

Step 3: Write your content
This is the meat for your strategy

Content Ideas

  • This is the #1 area people get stuck.
  • Focus on what the online community is asking for, and not so much on what you are doing.
  • It’s not all about you.

What content to post

  • Ask questions. Remember, people like to talk about themselves.
  • Deliver timely, helpful links. (Local newspaper event, local activities, ect)
  • Make announcements.
  • Share video. (This is the most highly engaged pieces of media. Keep it under 2 minutes)
  • Have contests.
  • Ask (more) questions.
  • Add value!

Step 4 : Interact

Social networks aren’t about Web sites. They’re about experience.
One way to find out who is talking about you on Twitter is by using their “Advanced Search” tool

Social Media Stats

  • 90% of Facebook activity occurs in the news feed. Be in the feed.
  • 80 characters or less gets the highest level of engagement on Facebook.
  • Post outside of 9-5 hours for more greatest engagement.
  • 20% more engagement happens on Friday.
  • People are 18% more likely to engage when you end a Facebook Update with a “?”
  • 18-34 Millennial – 94% of millennial will be on the web in some way shape or form. To be millennial is to be digital.
